IN SPRING
If you see a lone goose hanging out in an area but there is no apparent injury, he is a gander on guard nest duty. His goose is nesting in an undisclosed location. Do not disturb him. Some ganders are very protective of their mates on nests and they might fly at you. Keep a safe distance and do not disturb them.
IN SUMMER
If you have seen an injured goose with wing or foot injury, contact a local wildlife rehabilitation centre. They might have volunteers who can go out and help capture the injured geese.
IN WINTER
If you see a goose with a broken wing, most of the time they will be euthanized by wildlife rehabilitation centres if you take them in because there are very few sanctuaries available for geese that cannot fly and surgery to repair their wings is usually not gong to allow them to fly. If you live in a southern location, where there’s open water and grass, the goose will be fine. Just leave it there. Trying to catch it will cause it a lot of stress. If you live in the north, where winters are harsh and ponds freeze completely for months, you can contact your local wildlife rehabilitation centre. They might have volunteers who will go out and try and capture the geese. You should help the goose or geese survive by offering them wild bird seed that contains corn or wheat. If the birdseed does not contain either corn or wheat, offer it to them anyway as they will be starving amd any food is better than nothing.
